Care Instructions
Here are some care instructions to help keep your new hardwood item looking its best and giving it a lifetime of use. None of it is rocket science, and it won’t take up loads of your time! If you have any questions, please let me know. I included hyperlinks to the products mentioned below.
CLEANING YOUR PRODUCT
Cleaning and storage is a very important step to keeping your board looking it’s best as well as keeping it from warping or growing any bacteria. Follow these few tips and it will give you many years of use.
-
To wash your board, use your normal dish soap and warm water to get off any food residue, oils or any other dirt. (Do NOT put in dishwasher)
-
Dry off with a clean towel and then stand it on its side to let the air completely dry off.
-
Once dry, store your board in open air, on its side or hanging, do NOT lay flat for storage. This will keep the board from warping over time.
-
That is all for cleaning, very simple right?!
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OF PRODUCT
Over time, the finish and luster will fade due to the cleaning, the food and grease, etc. But it is easy to keep it looking beautiful all the time with just a few easy steps! You can do this as often as you want, no rules. I personally do this once a month, just to keep the colors looking great.
-
When your board is clean and thoroughly dry, you just need to apply some food grade mineral oil onto the board and use hands or towel to spread it all over, then let it sit, vertically, for 15min or so. (You don’t need a lot, maybe a teaspoon or less, just enough so you can cover the whole board)
-
Now simply use a paper towel or something like that to wipe off the excess mineral oil. Let it air out for a few hours at least, then store it as you usually do. That’s It!!
EXTRA MAINTENANCE PRO TIP
This step is not needed on a regular basis, depending on use it may only need this a couple times a year. If it’s use is very frequent, maybe monthly or bi-monthly. Bottom line is, it’s up to you depending on how shiny and beautiful you want to keep it looking. It will not affect the usefulness of the board, but it does help from moisture seeping into the board.
-
Use a board wax that is specifically made for cutting boards, it has beeswax, mineral oil and often coconut oil and vitamin E all mixed together. (I will include a link to it below, and it is also on the website.) To apply, you simply put a thin layer, you can use your hands, it’s great for the skin, and work it in to the wood until you have covered it all. (You really don’t need much, just enough to get a very thin amount on the board.)
-
After 15min, use a dry towel or rag to buff off the excess until the shine and colors look great again! Easy Peasy :)
